The future of youth sports is in good hands, thanks to innovative and passionate coaches shaping the next generation of athletes. We sat down with three rising stars: Coach Alexis Green, a basketball strategist; Coach Diego Martínez, a tennis advocate; and Coach Riley Summers, a volleyball tactician.
Coach Alexis Green’s journey began as a standout college basketball player. Now, she’s committed to redefining the youth basketball experience. “For too long, the focus has been solely on winning. I want my players to understand the value of teamwork and perseverance,” she explains. Green has implemented mental health days into her training schedule, offering her athletes opportunities to recharge and reflect.
Tennis coach Diego Martínez is on a mission to bring tennis to underserved communities. “I grew up in a neighborhood where tennis wasn’t an option. I want to change that,” he says. Martínez has partnered with local organizations to provide free equipment and host workshops, ensuring that aspiring players have the resources they need.
Meanwhile, volleyball coach Riley Summers is harnessing technology to elevate her athletes’ performance. Using motion-capture tools, she helps her players analyze their form and optimize their technique. “Data gives us a clearer picture of what’s working and what isn’t,” she explains. However, Summers emphasizes that personal connection remains key. “Even with all the tech, nothing replaces the bond between coach and player.”
These coaches are not only advancing their respective sports but also championing inclusivity, mental well-being, and holistic development, proving that the future of youth sports is about much more than just the game.
